Electronic Diesel Injection Control
Function
The electronic Diesel injection regulates the injection amount and the start of the delivery, taking into account the engine speed, accelerator pedal position, engine- and fuel temperature, and maybe the amount of air
sucked in. The fuel consumption and the exhaust emissions are being optimized by engine map control. Problems are being recorded and during an emergency run missing or obviously incorrect data are being
replaced. Later on, the garage may retrieve the saved data, and thus check the single components.
How it works
Via actuators the start and end of the delivery can be determined by the control unit. Injection pumps make use of hydraulics, that are operated by clock valves. For Common Rail and pump injectors very fast operating magnetic
valves are being used to carry out the control unit's orders. Sensors for the different temperatures (coolant, fuel, sucked in air), engine speed, the angle of the crankshaft, accelerator pedal position, and maybe the air
mass in case of supercharging, provide the values for the control unit to fill in the engine map, and calculate the start and end of the delivery. Additional systems like the variabel exhaust gas regulation or
particulate filters with additional sensors can be integrated. In addition, always comes the whole range of reaction to disturbances (for example, output tests).
